<p>The very beginning of our company was back in 1950, where a
major meat packer, Vigo Østergaard had a vision of using
slaughterhouse offal for the production of more
valuable products. For this purpose Vigo Østergaard started a
production of Lung Heparin as well as of Plasma powder for
animal feeds. The production took place in the buildings belonging
to - and in the vicinity of - Copenhagen Slaughter Houses to
secure an easy and stable supply of raw materials.<br />
<br />
After a management buy-out Biofac A/S was founded 1955as an
independent company. The basic idea was to use nature's own
raw materials for the production of active ingredients mainly
for the pharmaceutical industry as well as sophisticated basic
ingredients for nutraceuticals. During the following years,
active ingredients such as Intrinsic Factor and Stabilized
Rumen Extract were developed.<br />

From this modest beginning grew a modern company with a broad
range of animal origin products mostly used by pharmaceutical,
veterinary and cosmetic companies.<br />
Today's production takes place in six modern factories in
Denmark.</p>

<div>For decades all factories of the Biofac Group have been
implementing and working under the GMP and GLP guidelines. Our
animal products are controlled by possibly the
strictest veterinary authorities in the world. These high
standards enable us to supply the highest quality products
available.</div>
<p>In 1984 Biofac, Ejby was established in the modern dairy plant
of Ejby Mejeri. In this plant Biofac produces a variety of products
based on animal glands. The plant is extremely flexible, which
enables us to adjust the quality of many of these products to suit
the exact needs of our numerous individual clients.</p>

<p>Biofac A/S in Esbjerg is a factory dedicated to the production
of muco-polysaccharides. It's primary product is Sodium Chondroitin
Sulfates.<br />
A unique technology developed by our own group allows us to
produce Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate in pure form without the use of
any solvents.<br />
This new factory, Biofac, Esbjerg, is located in the harbor area
and is a modern, high capacity production unit.</p>

<p>PharmaDan A/S was founded as a subsidiary of Danipharm A/S to
manufacture finished, liquid pharmaceutical products - first and
foremost based on Danipharm's Lactulose products.</p>
<p>The production facilities of PharmaDan A/S are situated in
Østerbølle, Jutland, and the superior modern production lines are
designated for filling and packing primarily of Lactulose and thus
meeting the quality demands of international pharmaceutical
companies. PharmaDan A/S has been approved by the Danish Health
Authorities.</p>

<p>In 1988 the Biofac group of companies acquired a chemical
factory in Northern Jutland. A lot of new equipment and machinery
was installed and in August 1989 Danipharm A/S started the
production of Lactulose Concentrate. Since then the factory has
been modernized, enlarged, and automated and the capacity of
production has been increased considerably.</p>
<p>Today Danipharm A/S is a completely modern, effective and
well-functioning production unit inspected and approved by the US
FDA as well as by the Danish Health Authorities. Danipharm A/S
produces Lactulose in bulk form (API according to GMP Q7A).</p>

<p>In 1987 Biofac took over Orthana Kemisk Fabrik A/S, which was
founded in 1934 by the Mørch family. Originally Orthana produced a
wide range of animal extracts, but through the 50's and 60's the
focus turned more and more towards specialising the production,
concentrating on 3 major areas, Pepsin, Peptones and Mucins.</p>
<p>During the 80's and 90's innovative measures brought purified
versions of mucin resulting in the artificial saliva formulation,
Saliva Orthana®, specially designed peptones and high activity
pepsin. These products are now the foundation of the Orthana
product line. Today the Orthana premises also house the
headquarters and administration of the Biofac Group of
companies.</p>

facilities for Thrombin to a newly completely modernized
building in Kastrup. Here Biofac, Kastrup was established
producing the pharmaceutical enzymes Thrombin and
Fibrinolysin. Both these completely new production lines are
now GMP approved by the Danish FDA
("Lægemiddelstyrelsen") according to Q7A</p>
